CCpilot V700 – Under the Hood

Written: Thursday, September 10, 2020 8:35:00 AM

Designed and built on a product platform using iMX8, the CCpilot V700 acts as true GUI specialist with support for rapidly emerging technologies like multiple digital camera streams, stream stitching to create panoramic views, object detection and classification as well as speech recognition and tool controls utilising Artificial Intelligence.

In order to achieve this functionality on top of traditional HMI applications like instrumentation, diagnostics and machine controls the platform has expanded the available development tools to include a number of new APIs including OpenGL ES 3.1, Vulkan, OpenCL 1.2 and OpenVG 1.1 as well as full programming support for C++ (17), C, QML, JavaScript, Python, HTML5, IEC61131-3 and commercial and open source Qt 5.15 with planned upgrade to Qt6 when it is released. The CCpilot V700 can be deployed to run either our custom Linux image CC Linux or a user created one based on Yocto 2.7 or newer. The newly supported APIs, such as Vulkan, allow system adopters to more efficiently manage an applications CPU and GPU loads. This means that the device can run more applications cooler and faster for longer. In addition, Vulkan allows the CCpilot V700 to support the completely redesigned graphics back end of Qt6, which is expected to be released in late 2020.

All CrossControl devices come with access to our application platform, LinX Software Suite, which provides prebuilt modules and tools to create custom applications that can be reused across all CrossControl displays.  The optional prebuilt modules include our GUI designer, CAN networking, telematics support, CODESYS integration and remote application access tools. The hardware supporting these advanced software capabilities is powered by dual Cortex A35 ARM cores, plus a Vivante GC7000lite high performance graphics processing unit with 1GB of RAM and 4 GB of Storage.

The unit has a compact sleek design, inspired by our Red Dot award winning previous generation 7” infinity style display, that can facilitate neat integration into armrests, panel mounting or bracket mounting as desired. The unit is housed in a tough, custom designed, Valox 357x chassis that meets IP65 and 66 standards for ingress protection as well as high shock, vibration and temperature tolerances to meet industry requirements.

The optically bonded anti-glare coated display is IPS for extreme viewing angles with a high 1000:1 contrast ration and over 800 cd/m2 to be truly sunlight readable even on the brightest days and features touch calibration to suit user’s requirements like gloves and water insensitivity.

Interfaces include CAN ports, 10/100 Base-T ethernet and USB for flexible machine integration options. The platform has inherent support for Bluetooth 5 to enable wireless connectivity and we are planning to release this as a standard product option shortly. This broad selection allows the CCpilot V700 to meet customer’s needs and provide machine users the best tool for the job.
