Wireless module

ADD WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY TO YOUR APPLICATIONS

The iMX8 based displays have variants with built-in Wi-Fi & Bluetooth, enabling software updates over the air, smartphone integration and other wireless features.

By using the included code examples for numerous use cases developers can add wireless connectivity to applications built for CrossControl displays. The documentation includes some background and basic information for both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. By using UX Designer and the guides provided in this Wireless module no additional software is required.

Supported products:

  • iMX8 based displays with built-in BT/Wi-Fi-chip

Wi-Fi

  • Supports all newer standards within the family of IEEE 802.11
  • Displays can both act as an Access Point (AP), and connect to an AP
  • Offers security methods WPA1 and WPA2 (where WPA2 is strongly recommended to use)
  • Supports TKIP and AES Encryption (where AES is strongly recommended to use)
  • Network Manager is the built-in Linux service which handles the Wi-Fi connections and communication.
  • Use cases with code examples in the module:
    - Enable/disable Wi-Fi
    - Scanning for devices
    - Retrieve info about available networks (Access Points)
    - Connect to unprotected network
    - Connect to WPA2 protected network, both TKIP and AES
    - Setup display as AP (Access Point) or Hotspot
  • Once the connection is established (with or without security/encryption) users can use any TCP/UDP/IP based protocol for communication.

Bluetooth

  • Supports Bluetooth v5.0, both in terms of HW and SW
  • Supports both Bluetooth Classic and Low Energy (LE)
  • Uses BlueZ a built-in Bluetooth stack in the Linux OS.
  • Use cases with code examples in the module:
    - Powering Bluetooth On and Off
