CrossControl researcher Taufik Sitompul along with his research partners from NTNU, Norway and Mälardalen University, Sweden have published their paper on the Application of Human Factors in the Development Process of Immersive Visual Technologies: Challenges and Future Improvements.
The team investigated how Human Factors have been applied when designing and developing Immersive Visual Technologies, such as Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, and Virtual Reality.
The results suggested an insufficient knowledge and application of Human Factors in the development of the technology, due to an apparent lack of awareness of both the scope and significance of Human Factors on the use and success of the technology, resource allocation strategy, market inertia, stakeholder's involvement, standardisation of Human Factors application, and the overall maturity of the technology.
They observed that the situation could be improved by allocating more experts, adjusting organizational strategy to balance resource allocation, training developers and user organisations to raise awareness of the issue and encouraging co-creative design and knowledge sharing among stakeholders. The expected results would be a greater sense of ownership and progress among stakeholders, which could help to ensure the usefulness of the technology to industry.
