CrossControl will take part in the iVT Expo in Chicago from the 31st of August through the 1st of September, booth i821. CrossControl UX Lead Dr Markus Wallmyr has been invited to speak at both of the 2022 iVT Expos in Cologne and Chicago. Markus’s recent research has been into UX for Industrial Vehicles.
In Chicago Markus will look at the movement towards a modular user interface in a more digital world. Systems of today shall move towards shorter release cycles, with continuous improvements and ever improving operator experiences and in this are the digital content is becoming key. This new focus is changing the approach to building machine software and user interaction where in the past a monolith software implementation has led to burdens in software maintenance and multiple, independent, HMI devices causes a fragmented user experience. This presentation looks at some ways that the next generation of terminals can support a modular HMI concept where information can be moved dynamically, even between different physical screens to achieve an ideal user experience for each operational mode, even for machines that perform many distinct tasks like tractors and excavators.
Our booth at the event will showcase our next generation modular technology platform. Powered by the latest ARM and x86 application processors our displays come in sizes 3.5”-14” offering system designers the freedom to build an optimized HMI solution. Our platform supports the next generation of terminals and a modular HMI concept where information can be moved dynamically, even between different physical screens to achieve a more ideal user experience for each operational mode, even for machines that perform many distinct tasks like tractors and excavators. Our showcase includes demonstrations of our open software platform which features a modular architecture built to meet the needs of industrial machines. Through its modular structure, the platform can be used to achieve HMI and machine control functionality as well as advanced operational support features including the coming trends for smart vehicles like machine automation, AI inferred object detection and ADAS. The platform includes embedded software (firmware), Linux Board Support packages, and a full Linux operating system (CC Linux). On top of this layer, we offer an application platform, toolchains & libraries, Qt support tools, and software application modules. System designers can choose which level of platform support they want to base their solution on.
