With the differentiating value of industrial vehicle becoming increasingly software defined, there is lot to be gained with centralized vehicle control system architectures. Managing machine intelligence in a central, powerful computing node reduces both cost and complexity compared to hosting multiple, distributed processing units to deliver functionality. We have developed and validated some critical technology modules for centralized computing to our platform and now bring a new product line to market; CrossCore computing units and a range of supporting monitors.
The CrossCore P100 is based on an Intel X7433RE processor, the latest ATOM processor for advanced industrial HMI and process control applications. Power consumption is in the same range as ARM-based processors for similar usage but it offers much improved application and graphics processing power compared to the most advanced SoCs in the i.MX 8-series, used in the market today.
CrossControl’s Linux system, available with the P100, leverages advanced frameworks to make full use of the device’s hardware capabilities, for example hardware accelerated graphics and containers for separating software application execution. For lean system development, the platform comes with prepackaged development toolchains like Qt and HTML5 with support for Window management, enabling GUI applications and screen content to be presented dynamically on connected monitors. The software platform also includes frameworks for License management, OTA updates and cyber security to effectively manage the software system over time.
The CrossCore P100 has strong networking capabilities, with options for multiple CAN FD and Ethernet 1000BaseTX and 100/1000BaseT1 interfaces. Vision systems based on digital cameras is a key use case for the P100 and it includes an integrated switch for multiple 100BaseT1 cameras. The P100 offers the option of adding expansion modules to further support use cases including video stream pre-processing, AI acceleration or increased storage. This scalability gives OEMs the freedom to adopt new functionality over time in a lean way.
HMI display applications, for example Graphical User Interfaces, is another key use case. The P100 can drive multiple monitors over display link interfaces where video signal, power supply and control signals are realised in a single cable interface to the monitor, allowing for neat cab installations. The new product line will include monitor units in a variety of sizes including 7”, 10” and 12”. Custom monitor designs for optimising cab design and integration are offered on request.
