Operators around the world want to get the most out of their machines, adding new tools, replacing worn components and in some cases fully refurbishing the vehicles. These days that last step can include a switch to an all-electric drive train, cutting down on emissions and depending on location energy costs. In the Case of Frontiers North the switch to electric for their EV Tundra Buggy 12 also brought the benefit of silence allowing their arctic circle tours to get closer to polar bears without disturbing them.
Switching to electric presents a system management challenge and this was solved for Frontier North by JEM Technical. JEM’s engineers developed custom display and controller software that integrated the ground drive propulsion and hydraulic steering systems with the vehicle’s battery management system. A CrossControl CCpilot VA touchscreen display was used to create a user-friendly operator interface, while a HydraForce ECU2415A controller was used as a primary control device.
CrossControl’s open platform means displays can be used as part of a mixed component system giving OEMs and System Integrators freedom of choice. CrossControl displays are available with LinX open software platform. Designers can choose to base their solution at any level of the platform from stand-alone hardware, our Linux OS or using a combination of our pre-packaged toolchains and alternative development paths. Building applications with our pre-packaged toolchain does not lock developers into the platform, and in-house, 3rd party, or legacy applications can be added to the deployment package.
CrossControl displays are built to succeed in challenging environments like those often found in construction, material handling, and agricultural vehicle applications. They feature best in class tolerances for shock and vibration and can operate in an extreme temperature range. Our new iMX8 bases displays meet tough EMC requirements including new EU standards for immunity to 100 V/M fields which qualifies it for control functionality with high requirements on integrity and safety. And they boast IP certification for 65, 66 and 67. With display sizes from 5”-12”, and touch screen & physical button interaction options the range can effectively be deployed as a modular display platform for OEMs and system suppliers that deliver equipment of different size and complexity.
